President’s Message, September 2025
CRPA President Reflects on Progress Made, Challenges Ahead, and a Community United
As we settle into the rhythm of fall (possibly the best season of the year) and the colours of the season remind us of change and renewal, I’m thinking of the resilience and adaptability of our radiation protection community. This time of year encourages reflection, and I find myself looking back on the challenges we’ve faced, the progress we’ve made, and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Our members continue to lead the way to ensuring safety across Canada’s diverse radiation sectors—health care, industry, academia, and government. Whether navigating evolving regulations, integrating new technologies, or mentoring the next generation of radiation safety professionals, their dedication ensures radiation is used safely and responsibly.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s annual conference in Hamilton, especially our volunteers, speakers, and attendees. The conference remains a cornerstone of CRPA’s mission to foster knowledge sharing and professional development. Together, we were “Forging the Future” of radiation safety (and having a bit too much fun in the hospitality suite).
In the coming months, the CRPA board will be focusing on several priorities: offering relevant and interesting professional development, enhancing outreach to students and early-career professionals, and taking steps to keep CRPA relevant. We’re also exploring new ways to enhance the member experience and increase collaboration across our community.
Finally, I encourage members to stay connected. Consider volunteering to be part of one of the many committees, participate in the next annual general meeting, and attend the 2026 conference in Saskatoon. Our strength lies in our shared expertise, our willingness to support one another, and our commitment to protecting people and the environment from the risks of radiation.
I thank members for being a part of CRPA and for everything they do to advance radiation protection in Canada. I look forward to what we’ll accomplish together this season and beyond.
