President’s Message, June 2026

Passing the Gavel

Outgoing CRPA President Celebrates Achievements and Future Direction

As I prepare this final message as president of the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA), I find myself reflecting on how much our community continues to accomplish. Serving in this role has been an honour, and I am deeply grateful for the dedication, expertise, and generosity that define CRPA and its members.

I am excited to wrap up my term with the 45th Annual CRPA Conference, the Symposium on Radon and Radiation Protection, held in partnership with our friends at the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST). This year’s event is special, as it represents a genuine collaboration between CRPA and CARST, combining forces to deliver a conference that broadens the conversation and strengthens ties across our professional communities. The partnership is designed to build bridges and break barriers, something the local organizing committee has managed wonderfully.

Every year, our work as radiation protection professionals becomes more important. New technologies, new challenges, and new expectations for standards of protection push our field forward. I am always impressed by the way CRPA members meet these challenges—with scientific rigour, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to public and worker safety. Our strength has always been, and will always be, our people.

As I pass the leadership torch and the all-important gavel, I do so with complete confidence in the association’s future. CRPA is in excellent hands, and I know the incoming president and board will continue guiding us forward with vision and care. There is important work ahead—from strengthening our professional networks, to advancing education and certification, to ensuring our voice remains strong in conversations about radiation safety in Canada. I am excited to continue supporting this work as past president.

To everyone I have worked with, learned from, and represented over my term, thank you. Your trust and collaboration have meant more than I can express. I look forward to seeing many of you at future CRPA events and continuing to be part of this remarkable community. Hopefully, I’ll see you in Saskatoon, where the radon discussions will be hot, the prairie hospitality even hotter, and the uranium mine tour . . . not hot at all because we take ALARA very seriously!
