Bringing Radiation Protection Industries Together: CRPA’s 2024 Annual Conference
Since 1979, CRPA has been advancing the development and communication of scientific knowledge and practical means for protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. The local organizing committee in Edmonton, AB, is pleased to be continuing this mission by hosting the 43rd annual CRPA conference.
This event, which will be held June 3 to 7, 2024, at the River Cree Resort and Casino, will bring together members from industry, healthcare, research, and government to share, discuss, and network on topics associated with radiation protection.
Call for abstracts
Abstracts are now being accepted for the 2024 conference.
The theme is “bringing radiation protection industries together.” Subthemes include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Management strategies for radiation protection programs
- Risk management (communication, education, and awareness)
- Successful program initiatives that improve occupational and public dose control
- Effective training programs
- Lessons learned from emergency or unplanned situations
- New developments in radiobiology, protection technologies, and innovation
- Regulatory expectations and objectives
- Emergency preparedness and response
The conference will be an opportunity to align academia and industries on the topic of radiation protection. It will explore what is being done to further the effective implementation of radiation protection programs at organizations around the world and what is being done to improve the effectiveness of those who support or manage these programs.
The conference committee invites interested parties to submit abstracts for papers and posters, as well as proposals for panels, interactive sessions, and workshops that broadly explore the conference theme. Presentations and posters on other aspects of radiation protection are also welcome and encouraged. Submissions may describe completed research, in-progress research, or case studies, especially those reflecting innovative practice.
Abstracts may be submitted in English or French; however, all presentations will be in English and simultaneous translation will not be available.
If your work is selected for presentation at the conference, you must register for the conference and travel to the conference at your own expense to present your work in person (unless otherwise arranged with the Conference Committee).
The deadline for abstract submissions is March 1, 2024. For more information, including submission guidelines, visit the conference website.
Anthony J MacKay Student Paper Contest
Each year CRPA’s Students and Young Professionals Committee organizes the Anthony J. Mackay Student Paper Contest in conjunction with the CRPA conference. The contest is open to all students enrolled full-time in a Canadian college or university program related to radiation sciences.
From among the submissions, three finalists will be selected and given the opportunity to present their work in a plenary session at the conference. All three finalists will have their full conference fee (including banquet) and three nights hotel accommodation covered. The winner will be presented with the Anthony J. MacKay trophy at the banquet, have their paper published in the CRPA Bulletin, and receive a $250 cash prize.
All students who enter the contest will receive a complimentary one-year CRPA membership. (If you are already a member, your renewal date will be extended by one year.)
The deadline for entries is February 16, 2024. For information about the contest, please see the Student Paper Contest web page.
