Résumé
À la fin du mois de septembre, Scott Nichelson écrivait avoir hâte que les températures se refroidissent et de participer aux activités intéressantes et informatives organisées par la Health Physics Society (HPS). Il encourageait alors les membres de l’ACRP à participer aux conférences suivantes :
- Conférence semi-annuelle de la HPS à Bethesda, au Maryland, du 26 au 29 janvier 2020.
- Conférence 2020 de la HPS à National Harbor, au Maryland, du 5 au 9 juillet 2020.
Il a aussi suggéré aux membres de l’ACRP de s’informer sur les réunions ou les activités de l’une des succursales de la HPS situées près des frontières canado-américaines :
- Chapitre Cascade, en Orégon
- Chapitre Columbia, à Washington
- Chapitre Idaho, en Idaho
- Chapitre North Central, région couvrant cinq États : Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Dakota du Nord et Dakota du Sud
Howdy, y’all. I am writing this in late September, but summer-like weather (35°C to 38°C) is still going strong here in South Texas. (Unfortunately, so is my air conditioning bill.) Hopefully we can soon look forward to some cooler temperatures and interesting and informative events hosted by the Health Physics Society (HPS).
HPS mid-year meeting
HPS will host their mid-year meeting in Bethesda, MD, from January 26 to 29, 2020. Bethesda (a DC suburb) is where the Nuclear Regulatory Commission headquarters are located. It will probably be cold there at that time.
2020 HPS meeting
The annual HPS meeting will be held in National Harbor, MD, from July 5 to 9, 2020. This is yet another DC suburb, and the weather in summer should be hot and humid.
HPS western chapters
Perhaps some of the radiation protection specialists in Western Canada might want to check out an HPS chapter meeting and/or event. A chapter is a geographical subgroup of HPS, generally with much smaller and shorter meetings/events.
Unfortunately, not all the chapter websites are up to date, but here is a listing of some HPS chapters in the western US (nearest to the Canadian border):
- Cascade Chapter, Oregon
- Columbia Chapter, Washington
- Idaho Chapter, Idaho
- North Central Chapter, the five-state area of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota

Sasky Pack is what Scott affectionately calls the backpack he received when he attended the CRPA annual conference in Saskatoon in 2017. Sasky ventured far north this summer to help Scott escape the Texas heat.
