Cours de développement professionnel de l’ACRP

Les membres partagent leurs connaissances et apprennent les uns des autres

As I finished writing the 2021 annual report for the CRPA Professional Development (PD) Committee, I realized last year was yet another busy year with some great accomplishments by the association’s PD program.

Have you had a chance to take a look at the CRPA Thinkific site recently? If not, I hope you take a moment to do so soon. As you may know, the PD Committee organized three live online sessions in 2021 that can now be accessed in the pay-per-view format:

  • Root Cause Investigation, originally presented on February 26, 2021, by Jeff Fleming, CRPA(R), teaches a simplified incident investigation methodology that will allow you to ascertain root cause. Jeff is an inspector with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
  • TDG “Class 7” Refresher for the Radiation Safety Officer, originally presented on March 26, 2021, by Trevor Beniston, CRPA(R), is intended for individuals who have previously taken formal Class 7 TDG training. Trevor is the provincial radiation safety leader for Cancer Care Alberta.
  •  Introduction to Gamma Spectroscopy, was originally presented on December 3, 2021, by Chris Malcolmson, CHP, CRPA(R). Chris is a health physicist at McMaster University.

All the sessions organized by the PD Committee so far have been very well attended and we received excellent feedback from attendees about the content and quality of the sessions.

Two of the PD instructors, Trevor and Jeff, are members of the PD Committee. Along with fellow PD Committee members Joe Cortese, Ed Waller, and Sandra Vidakovic, Trevor and Jeff have made many important contributions to the CRPA PD program. I am sure you recognize several names here as colleagues, fellow CRPA members, and individuals who have provided PD sessions in previous years.

However, I really want to highlight how happy we are that Chris Malcolmson answered our call for volunteers (other than PD Committee members) to deliver new PD sessions. Chris delivered a session that was very popular among members. Thank you again, Chris!

All the sessions presented so far are a reminder how much knowledge our CRPA members have and how important it is for us to share this knowledge with others. We can all learn from each other and benefit from the CRPA PD program.

CRPA(R) maintenance points

As a reminder, all our CRPA PD sessions (in person, live online, or the pay-per-view pre-recorded format), not only provide excellent content, but they also qualify for CRPA(R) maintenance points. Instructors are also eligible for extra CRPA(R) maintenance points.

Interested in sharing your knowledge?

We’re always looking for more PD instructors. If you are thinking about delivering a PD session for CRPA, reach out to me (Donata Chaulk) via the CRPA Secretariat ([email protected]). We need your help to continue our success!

CRPA member discounts

If you are a CRPA member and you are thinking about taking an online course, don’t forget to obtain the coupon code for CRPA Member discount in the members area of the CRPA website. Courses cost $226 for the general public, but members pay only $56.50!

Upcoming sessions

Stay tuned as the PD Committee continues to organize new sessions for 2022. Watch for updates and keep an eye on the CRPA Thinkific site.
