The 4th International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection was held in Paris, France, October 10–12, 2017. For the first time, the Symposium was held in conjunction with the European Radiation Protection Research Week (ERPW), an annual conference that brings together five European research platforms in radiation protection.
The 64th session of United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) took place from May 28 to June 2, 2017. UNSCEAR is the United Nations committee responsible for assessing exposures to radiation and effects on human health and the environment.

Historically, calibration of thermoluminescent dosimeter chips has used an X-ray combined with a calibrated reference instrument. This process, however, is tedious and expensive. A solution is to calibrate the chips using commercial Cs-137, a naturally occurring radioactive gamma ray source.
