President’s Message, May 2025
Last year, the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) celebrated their 45th anniversary as an organization. We’ve seen a lot together since 1979. The years have brought immense change in the use of radiation in our society, as well as an amazing increase in our knowledge of radiation, its benefits, and its effects. As I look back at our past work in the field of radiation protection, I also find myself looking forward to what the future holds.
CRPA’s conference theme this year is, “Forging the Future.” The conference is being held in Hamilton, ON. There’s been a remarkable surge in interest in the nuclear industry, and we look toward a new era in nuclear innovation in Canada and beyond. As a Canadian organization, we pride ourselves on international relationship building and our emphasis on scientific knowledge. This year’s conference theme reflects this.
I am optimistic for the future of our industry, and I look forward to what it will bring as we welcome the next generation of radiation professionals. I have every faith that we will have passed on the knowledge they will need as radiation protection professionals to continue meeting our objectives: “advance the development and communication of scientific knowledge and practical means for protecting people and their environment from the harmful effects of radiation consistent with the optimal use of radiation for the benefit of society” (CRPA’s Objectives).
