Due South, May 2025
Howdy y’all. As I am writing this, it is early April here in South Texas and summer is almost here. The temperature is in the low 30s (Celsius) already and my A/C is humming away.
Health Physics Society Meetings
The Health Physics Society (HPS) conducted a workshop on fusion and non-ionizing health physics at the University of Alabama Birmingham from March 31 to April 1, 2025. This was followed by a professional development school, “Overview of the Nonionizing Radiation Spectrum,” from April 1 to 4, 2025. (Coincidentally, the organizer and host of these events has registered for the 2025 CRPA conference!)
HPS will hold their annual summer meeting from July 13 to 17, 2025, in Madison, WI (not too far from the Canadian border). Details can be found online.
State of Texas Chapter Student Meeting
My home chapter of HPS, the State of Texas Chapter, will conduct their annual student meeting at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, on April 11 and 12, 2025. The agenda isn’t finalized yet, but, unfortunately, the number of student presentations seems to be dwindling, and more presentations will be made by members and remote attendees.
Sasky Pack Update
As I recently retired from the United Sates Federal Government, Sasky (the CRPA backpack I received at the 2017 CRPA conference in Saskatoon) now hopes to spend a lot more time travelling.
Here is a photo I took last year of Sasky sitting on top of a national park sign in Tasmania, Australia. This was Sasky’s first trip south of the equator, but hopefully not his last.

See y’all in Hamilton . . . unless I get stranded in Europe.
